Leaders by Empowerment-Activists by Development (L.E.A.D. Nation), in partnership with the Knight Foundation, is pleased to announce the 4th Annual South Florida Youth Summit (SFYS). This year, L.E.A.D. Nation, Inc. celebrates 10 years of service to youth and families and culminates the 4th Annual South Florida Youth Summit by paying homage to its distinguished founders and leaders in the South Florida community, April 22-24.
This year’s Summit will kick-off on Friday, April 22nd. Civil Rights Legend and Congressman John Lewis, Founder of Honey Shine, Inc. Tracy Wilson Mourning, and Executive Director of the Dream Defenders Umi Selah, will lead the When Generations Meet interactive panel discussion. The event starts at 6:30 P.M., at Broward Community College and is free of charge. Please note that registration is required.
“The goal of this year’s Youth Summit is to inspire young leaders in middle school and high school to take charge by empowering them with knowledge of the possibilities, skills, and the leadership training they need to turn ideas into action,” says Florida State Rep. Shevrin Jones, D-West Park, founder of L.E.A.D. Nation. “Moreover, we are incredibly honored to have the legendary Civil Rights Leader and Congressman John Lewis as a guest speaker this year. It is my hope that his leadership, wisdom, and life experiences will motivate students to become agents of change and successful leaders within their own communities.”
The SFYS is free for all students and will feature several interactive and experiential learning events presented by influential speakers and educators throughout South Florida. Workshops will also be available for adults who attend. Topics discussed at this year’s Summit will focus on leadership development, technology, education, entrepreneurship, health & wellness and much more. The Summit is set to motivate and encourage our youth as well as equip those responsible for teaching them with the appropriate tools.
On Saturday, April 23rd, middle school and high school students from all across South Florida will enjoy a full-day Youth Summit from 8:30 A.M. to 4 P.M., at Miami-Dade College’s North Campus Conference Center. This event is free of charge with online registration.
The Summit weekend concludes on Sunday, April 24th with a Founders Luncheon sponsored by the City of Miramar and featuring Award-Winning Journalist & Social Architect Jeff Johnson.
