According to the Department of Health, in 2012, an individual making $11, 170 or less was living in poverty and if it was a family four with a household income of 23,050 or less, they were living in poverty. The US Census release their “Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2012” report and it stated 46.5 million people in the US were living below the poverty line, making up 10million families. In the black community, 27.2% were living in poverty, which equates to 10.9 million people. For millions of American families the unfortunate reality is that the only thing standing between them and poverty is their job.
