Host of “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” Iyanla Vanzant, to Keynote 43rd Annual Legislative Conference Networking Luncheon

WASHINGTON – The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) today announced that Iyanla Vanzant, host of the Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Iyanla: Fix My Life” reality television show, will serve as keynote speaker during the Annual Legislative Conference Networking Luncheon. The Networking Luncheon provides conference attendees with information, resources and networking opportunities to expand their personal and professional lives. The luncheon will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

“The Networking Luncheon is one of our signature events connecting concerned citizens who want to effect positive change in the African-American community,” said A. Shuanise Washington, president and chief executive officer of CBCF. “The participation of Iyanla Vanzant, a speaker and teacher known for her power to inspire, ensures the success of this year’s luncheon.”

“We encourage attendees to take the knowledge, relationships and opportunities they gain during the luncheon and ALC back to their home communities to influence public policy and help solve social issues,” Ms. Washington added.

“My life’s work has been to facilitate and support individuals in living beyond their perceived limitations so that they will build meaningful personal, professional, social and political relationships in order improve themselves and the world.” said Vanzant.  “Through the Networking Luncheon, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is providing an intimate and powerful setting for creating new connections that can be catalysts for positive change.”

Vanzant is a nationally recognized, inspirational speaker and relationship expert who is devoted to showing people how to transform their lives. Vanzant is also an award-winning author of five New York Times Bestsellers. Her works include: “Tapping the Power Within”; “Acts of Faith”; “The Value in the Valley”; “Faith in the Valley”; “In the Meantime: Finding Yourself and the Love You Want”; “One Day My Soul Just Opened Up: 40 Days and 40 Nights Toward Spiritual Strength”; and her latest book, “Peace from Broken Pieces.”

The Networking Luncheon is one of the most attended special events during ALC, attracting more than 1,000 people every year. The luncheon is included in the ALC Standard Registration Package. It is a limited capacity event.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 43rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) is the leading conference on legislative and policy issues impacting the African-American and Diaspora communities. Nearly 10,000 people will attend this four-day gathering to develop solutions to the challenges facing Black communities around the world through issues forums, brain trusts, a town hall meeting, networking sessions, and more.

This year’s ALC theme, “It Starts With You,” is a call to action urging individuals to champion much-needed change in public policy. The conference features the Exhibit Showcase, which offers educational, health and business-related opportunities for ALC attendees and an outreach project with Thrive DC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people facing the dire consequences of economic upheaval, including homelessness and housing instability. The premier ALC event, the Phoenix Awards Dinner fundraiser, supports the Foundation’s educational programs, scholarships and research initiatives. The conference concludes with a prayer breakfast that features gospel recording artists, including Marvin Sapp, who will deliver the morning message.
